Bio

Early years:

Marwenna’s father was a musician, playing mandolin and skiffle drums. He taught her how to play guitar when she was 8. Her grandmother was an accomplished violinist and accordion player and in the 1920’s was in the first all female band in Scotland

At the early age of 6 Marwenna did her first gig, entertaining neighbourhood children. Aged 14 she bunked school and performed with a few bands until she joined Carol and the Creations – one of the top cabaret bands in Scotland.

Career:

Before long she was gigging around Glasgow clubs and pubs. Brian Young at Cava Recording Studios in Glasgow heard her sing and made some introductions. Marwenna became a session singer and did backing vocals for artists/bands such as John Martyn , Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, Altered Images, Fiction Factory, Jeff Wayne, Catherine Zeta Jones and many more.

A dream came true when she met Lulu, who asked if she could record Marwenna’s song Shame. Marwenna’s publisher, though, had already promised it to Elkie Brooks.

At the age of 24 Marwenna left Glasgow to live in Cardiff, where she sang as a solo artist, appearing in Juice, a music show with John Peel. She wrote songs for some of the HTV Wales singers and caught the attention of some Record/Publishing companies in London.

Marwenna was a staff writer for:

Trinifold Music – known for their work with, Led Zeppelin, The Who etc… Marwenna signed her first publishing deal as a staff writer with them.

Stock/Aitken/Waterman – known for their work with Kylie Minogue , Steps , Jason Donavan, Bananarama, etc…

Big Life Music – known for their work with George Michael, Lisa Stansfield, The Verve , Snow Patrol, Badly Drawn Boy etc…

On top of that she has written for artists signed to major labels and some independents,

including Universal, Sony/Bmg, Emi, Columbia, Wea, Geffen, Telstar, CNR, ZYX.

Over the years Marwenna has build up an impressive catalogue of over 400 songs

Some of her back catalogue is at present with Univeral Music Publishing London UK. She now owns her own Publishing.

Marwenna has collaborated with a lot of award winning artists, leading to numerous multi-platinum and gold records and #1 hit singles, and many other singles that hit the charts.
